Dogs and cats of Cuba

I met a few dogs and cats in Cuba who quickly made friends with me. I also saw a number who looked like they needed some friends.

There is a Canadian outfit that does charitable work in Cuba with dogs – the Spanky Project. They apparently are always looking for people to take animal medicines and medical equipment (flea and tick treatment, syringes, needles etc) to Cuba. There is a also a donate button on the bottom of the page if anyone wants to do so. I was advised by a Cuban friend (fellow dog lover) that the best way to help support local animals is this kind of approach rather than a donation to a vets or animal shelter, unless you are very certain about the person you are giving the money to. Your donation might end up in their pocket rather than the animals welfare.
